Roses for Elsie, 2022
miyuki and toho beads on stroud
19” x 19”
Roses for Elsie is a series of seven circular beaded works depicting heightened and exaggerated roses to honour the memory of my grandmother's rose garden. My grandmother was a complicated women, who wasnt particularly warm, but she always cared for us through food and spending time (though it was always labour orientated). Her and my grandfather kept a beautiful garden, in the back was a large vegetable and fruit garden and in the front were two large juniper bushes flanked by roses. Her tending to the roses every year is the softest and most cherished memory I hold of her.
This work was made possible with support from Arts Nova Scotia.
